After writing about how did I end up doing this very niche type of art for a living, I wanted to tell you more about what exacrly I do and what drives me to expressing myself in this form.

Maybe, what I do and why tell more about who I am than the story I shared in the other article. So let’s get to it!
I am an artist. Not in the sense of being someone who puts a lot of effort in what they make (though this is true as well), but in the sense that I need to express myself and create beauty to feel fulfilled, in my life. Right now I work with costumes, but I also do photography and I draw, I paint, I knit. I bake, artistically, as well.
For a long time I felt empty, during covid lockdowns, because I felt like what made me happy had no purpose. It is not something practical, and it is the very first thing people drop, in time of need. I work in the field of excess and luxury. I make and sell things I could not afford, mostly. But it was during that time that I realised what I do is extremely important. Art is important. Art is… utterly and deeply necessary.
Art is what charges your batteries enough to face an other day at your boring job, for example. It lifts you from boredom, it fuels you, it makes you light and happy. It makes you think, and feel, it guides you through different feelings than those you were feeling by yourself. Be it a comic book, a netflix series, a painting or a costume, even if you don’t need art to keep yourself alive… art makes life worth living.
And I have also found out that I am an artist in the sense that I don’t like repeating things. I am not a machine, and my mind wants to be fed with new challenges, or else it will get back to me with depression. Mental health has been tricky in the last years, but I got to realize a few things I need to heep myself happy while working. After all a happy GM creates the best clothes. It shows, when I made something while I was happy, believe me, it’s in your best interest!
I love creating. I love designing and experimenting, creating samples more than finishing a whole dress from start to finish.
Because all the work behind GM is done by me, I am the only person behind emails, socials, photos, designing and making. Which sometimes is quite heavy on my shoulders. Finding and keeping the balance is a challenge by itself.
So think of me as a painter or a sculptor: you don’t ask a painter to replicate an exact painting with the exact color that matches the drapes in the living room. At least it’s not how usually artists work. Same for me. And this is why I work on one of a kind piece. You can find my curren offer here.
But in the end…what do I do?
Well, I design, I draft, I cut, I sew. I paint, I dye, I age and weather. I style wigs, I make historical hats. I create fantasy headdresses and accessories.
I can transform one of your costumes into something that looks like it’s stepped out of a movie, by painting and weathering. Thanks to my physiotherapy background I can build comfortable corsetry that gives dramatic shapes with minimum discomfort, always bespoke.
I work on unique pieces fitted to each customer: the character has to fit you like a glove.
